Carmel Ranch was named after the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy, a monastery and cattle ranch founded there in 1909.¹ They are named after a place in the Bible. The original Mt. Carmel is in Israel.² Most of the neighborhood is zoned for commercial use, but it is part of the Poway Unified School District. The community is located east of Interstate 15, north of Sabre Springs, west of Black Mountain Ranch, and south of Rancho Bernardo.
