Black Mountain Ranch is south of 4S Ranch. It is northwest of Rancho Peñasquitos, separated by the Black Mountain Open Space Park. Del Sur can be considered north Black Mountain Ranch depending on who you ask. It was developed in the Nineties by businessman and environmentalist Fred Maas.¹ He led the project to build a new development around a PGA Tour golf course. That would go on to become the Santaluz Club, a sprawling 3,800 acre golf community in an “Early California” setting that offers panoramic views of the coast.²
