There is a lot you can do yourself to prepare a home for being shown to prospective buyers. This is what we call “pre-staging” a home. But it also works for sprucing up the house before gatherings. And you can stage your home before taking photographs for social media, so potential followers do not see how you live.
1) Clear Away Clutter
Clear away clutter from the tops of cabinets and counter tops.
2) Remove Storage Bins
Eliminate extra storage-type items that may have accumulated in the home. For example there are kids toy bins, pet food bins, moving boxes, and other storage containers.
3) Clean Debris from Yard
Clear all debris from the yard including toys, furniture, junk, and gardening waste.
4) Make a Path
Make sure that there are plenty of walkways throughout the space. Three adults should be able to move through the home without bumping into anything.
5) Ensure Ample Lighting
Make sure all rooms have ample lighting. Showings should be bright regardless of the time of day. You may need to add a lamp, or open up the window blinds.
